About

Tobias Kaspar (born 1984, Basel, Switzerland) is a Swiss artist. He lives and works in Zurich and Riga.

Tobias Kaspar (born 1984 in Basel, Switzerland) is an artist living and working between Zurich and Riga.

His work operates within systems of value, taste, and desire rather than representing them. Moving across sculpture, photography, installation, and publishing, Kaspar develops bodies of work that shift in form while remaining anchored in questions of circulation, display, and authorship. His practice is concerned with how images, objects, and identities are produced, staged, and distributed within the overlapping fields of art, fashion, and everyday life.

Rather than working within a single medium, Kaspar approaches artistic production as a set of conditions. His projects often exist between exhibition-making, publication, and spatial installation, blurring distinctions between artwork, context, and infrastructure.

Since the early 2010s, Tobias Kaspar has exhibited internationally in museums, Kunsthallen, and galleries. His work has been shown at institutions including Midway Contemporary Art in Minneapolis, Kunsthalle Bern, MadeIn Art Museum in Shanghai, Foundry Seoul, MAMCO Musée d'Art Contemporain Genève, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and Artists Space in New York.

Kaspar is a founding member of PROVENCE (Est. in 2009), an independent publishing house and agency focused on contemporary art and culture.

Kaspar's work has been discussed in international publications including Artforum, Frieze, Texte zur Kunst, Mousse, and Flash Art, as well as in renowned lifestyle magazines such as Vogue Italia, Vogue US, and Harper’s Bazaar South Korea
